Talents/interests: Programming, Guitar, Mountain Biking, Linux
On the Programming side my interests are in networked applications. I think the
Internet is a tremendously powerful tool for both man and machine that has a
long way to go before it reaches its full capability. One of my
projects,
Code Connector, is one tool that I think can revolutionize the
way programmers communicate and collaborate.
I have been playing Guitar for about 7 years. My guitar is a Fender Stratocaster
in sunburst with a maple fretboard and Texas style pickup configuration. It is
powered by a 60watt Fender Princeton 112 plus Amplifier with various effects pedals
thrown in the loop. I also recently purchased a sweet Washburn accustic.
My style of play is rock and blues. Among my influences are
Jimi Hendrix, Pearl Jam, and BB King.
Mountain Biking is a great pastime of mine and has been since the first time
I stepped on a bike when I was a child. It is a great release and exercise
and allows me to get away from civilization for a while.
I have been using Linux for about 6 years and now very rarely use anything else
besides the occasional gaming and unavoidable situations. My first distro was
Redhat 6. I followed
Redhat until version 7.3, using Linux more and more for my regular desktop use,
before I found Gentoo. Gentoo is a recent addition to the distro smorgasbord.
What's different about Gentoo is that everything on your system is compiled by
your system specifically for your system with any number of optimizations. I
started with Gentoo on my Server, and was very pleased at the performance and
level of control over the system. I finally knew exactly what was on my system.
This is because Redhat takes the stance of throw together everything you could
ever possibly use, whereas Gentoo starts from the bare necessities and lets you
build on that. After a few months of Gentoo on my Server I converted my main PC
and have been very pleased since.
